Worker crashed to death after slipping into machine at steel factory in Matugga

Police have kicked off preliminary investigations into an incident under which a 26 year old worker at a steel and iron factory was crashed after allegedly slipping into one of the rolling machines.

Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Luke Oweyesigyire confirmed the incident noting that a 26 year old Martine Katanga was casual worker at China Chan Jiang Steel factory in Buwonzi village along Sanga Semuto road in Matugga.

“ According to preliminary investigations,it’s alleged that the deceased was working with his colleagues when he slid and fell into a rolling machine which he was operating resulting in his untimely death.”

Oweyesigyire added that police had to rush to the scene but all in vain the victim had already been removed from the rolling machine and rushed to Mulago where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

However the crime scene was documented,photographed and swabs were collected from the rolling machine along with the suspected remains of the deceased as investigations continue.

The same incident happened in 2017 were Daniel Odoch an employee at Kinyara Sugar factory was allegedly grabbed by a conveyor belt that threw him into the running machines eventually crushing him to death.

Consequently another incident happened in Buikwe district were a worker at Tembo Steel factory died on spot after being hit by a metallic pipe while on duty in Lugazi municipality.
