Mawogola’s 2026 Masaza Cup campaign came to an end at the quarter-final stage after a competitive run that saw the county finish among the leading sides in the Muganzirwazza Group.
Mawogola played 10 group-stage matches, collecting 18 points from five wins, three draws and two defeats. They scored 12 goals and conceded eight, finishing second in the group behind Butambala on goal difference.
A challenging start
Mawogola opened their campaign on June 20 with a narrow 1–0 defeat away to Butambala.
They responded strongly in their next match, drawing 1–1 with Bugerere on June 28 before recording their first victory of the tournament with a 1–0 home win over Kooki on July 5.
The team continued to collect important results through the group stage, including a 1–1 draw against Ssingo, a 1–1 draw with Kabula, and a 1–0 victory over Kabula in their return fixture.
Mawogola find their rhythm
As the group stage progressed, Mawogola became one of the teams to watch in the Muganzirwazza Group.
They defeated Ssingo 2–0 on August 9 before suffering a narrow 2–1 loss to Kooki a week later.
Mawogola then produced one of their most important results of the group stage when they travelled to face Bugerere on August 23 and returned with a 1–0 victory.
Their final group-stage match produced another memorable result as Mawogola defeated Butambala 3–2 on August 30.
That result helped secure their place in the knockout stage.
Quarter-final battle against Kyaggwe
Mawogola were drawn against Kyaggwe in the quarter-finals.
The first leg was played on September 13, with Kyaggwe leaving Mawogola’s home ground with a 2–1 victory. That result left Mawogola with a difficult task heading into the second leg.
The return leg was played on September 20.
Kyaggwe won 3–1, completing a 5–2 aggregate victory and ending Mawogola’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals.
A campaign to build on
Although Mawogola did not reach the last four, their 2026 campaign included several encouraging moments.
The team recorded five group-stage victories and remained competitive throughout a difficult Muganzirwazza section that also contained Butambala, Bugerere, Ssingo, Kooki and Kabula.
Their final record across the 12 matches they played in the tournament was five wins, three draws and four defeats, with 14 goals scored and 13 conceded.
For Mawogola, the 2026 Masaza Cup journey therefore ends in the quarter-finals—but the performances across the campaign provide a foundation for the county to build on in future editions.
