Tanzanian singer Zuchu launches of her debut EP, I Am Zuchu, at Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam today July 18, 2020
Zuchu is making big waves in East Africa.
The release will feature seven self-penned songs released on the Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) record label. The singer is the latest signee of the label, which is co-owned by celebrated Tanzanian artist Diamond Platnumz.
Zuchu launched her foray into the music scene in April 2020 with the single ‘Wana’, which has so far garnered about 4.5 million views on YouTube. The catchy, mid-tempo song explores the idea of sticking it out and attempting to make a relationship work through all the challenges that may arise.
She has collaborated with heavyweights like Diamond Platnumz, Mbosso and Khadija Kopa, a revered female Taarab musician who is also her mother.
She received a Silver Play Button from YouTube on 24 June and became the first East African female artist to exceed more than 100 000 subscribers within a week.
