Bobi wine’ s promoters wins case against the government after court nullified the blockage of Kyarenga Concert which where to be held in 2018.
In his congratulatory statement, Bobi Wine praised his promoters Abbey Musinguzi (Abtex) and Andrew Mukasa (Bajjo) on winning what he calls “a very well fought battle in the court room.”
He says other players in the legal fraternity specifically the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and people power lawyer Shamim Malende are also to be thanked.
After trying to organise many show for Bobi Wine in 2019 Abtex and Bajjo were blocked by police, they went ahead to have some trust in the system and filed a case in the High Court.
Bobi Wine says although in another case a judge had thrown them out saying they had no evidence pinning police on their claims, the two promoters were not discouraged to continue persuing justice in the Kyarenga cases.
After a year, Justice Esta Nambayo yesterday ruled that it was illegal, ultra vires, irrational, unreasonable and an abuse of power for the government to block the Kyarenga Extra Concerts at One Love Beach Busabaala, Lira, Gulu and Arua.
The judge further ordered the Inspector General of Police not to block these music shows and other social functions moving forward.
Bobi Wine says It is unfortunate that these cases normally take so long to decide.
” Nonetheless, I am glad that we have this decision which confirms what we have been saying, although we are yet to see if the decision can be respected! You will remember that Parliament in 2019 also passed a resolution against stopping the shows but the police disrespected that motion. ” He added.
