The 38-year-old who is seeking to unseat the National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader is still under detention and has refused to sign bond papers in absence of his lawyers, FremerMedia has learnt.

In a series of tweets on his official handle on Thursday, November 19, Wine, the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader said it was painful to watch his supporters being teargassed by the men in uniform.

“Scenes like this are very difficult to watch! The regime is in panic. We cannot have men in plain clothes shooting people in broad daylight,” he said.

The singer turned politician said he has been denied access to his lawyers and his medical team saying only army and police officers had access to him. “The violation of his rights with impunity must be condemned by all persons of good conscience,” a tweet on his handle read.

The officers accused Wine of flouting COVID-19 regulations requiring only 200 people at a public gathering but the musician wondered why Museveni was “afraid” of having a level playing field. “As Gen Museveni continues his campaigns and NRM continues to hold processions, Bobi Wine is still held illegally at Nalufenya! If Museveni wants to be a sole candidate, he must state so. Otherwise, we must have a level playing field for all candidates,” he said.
