Uganda Cranes secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Libya on Tuesday night, September 29, 2026, in their second Group H match of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifiers.
The decisive goal came just before halftime, with Arnold Vula finding the breakthrough in the 45+2nd minute to give Uganda the lead heading into the interval.
The Cranes held on to their advantage in the second half, keeping Libya at bay to claim all three points at Hoima City Stadium.
The victory comes after Uganda opened their qualifying campaign with a 1–1 draw away to Tunisia on September 24. Rogers Mato scored Uganda’s equaliser in that encounter.
Late First-Half Strike
With the first half approaching its conclusion, Vula struck in stoppage time to put Uganda ahead.
The goal proved decisive as Uganda maintained their 1–0 advantage through the remainder of the match.
Vula is among the heritage players recently brought into the Uganda Cranes setup, having joined the national team camp ahead of the Libya fixture.
Important Three Points for the Cranes
The result gives Uganda a strong start to their home fixtures in Group H.
Uganda are already guaranteed a place at the 2027 AFCON finals as one of the three co-hosts alongside Kenya and Tanzania. However, the Cranes are participating in the qualifiers as the competition determines the additional team that will qualify from Group
The 2027 AFCON tournament will be hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, with the finals scheduled for June and July 2027.
For Uganda, the victory over Libya provides another competitive test for head coach Paul Put as he continues to build a squad ahead of the continental tournament.
