NRM calls for a speed up of health centres under construction

The National Resistance Movement ( NRM ) party has called for a push on works of health centres under construction to improve service delivery in the health sector especially in the under-served areas of the country.

The Director NRM manifesto Implementation Unit in the office of the president Willis Bashasha said they were aware that although many facilities were still under construction across the country, work is not going according to plan in some of them.

…” some contractors cannot deliver either due to lack of capacity or other factors,” he said.

Meanwhile he added that delays to complete the works have resulted in reduced absorption of funds allocated to the projects in the national budget.

As a result he said some of the funds have been returned to the national Treasury at the close of the financial year and yet it is difficult to get this money returned to allow for a work to resume.

“ This has led to some projects being abandoned by contractors due to lack of money ,” he said adding that citizens need to see these projects completed and serving them.

During the event a delegation from the health ministry led by the minister for primary health care Ms Magaret Muhanga and the ministry’s permanent secretary Diana Atwine both made presentations on how far they had gone at implementing the government’s commitment in the 2021-2025 NRM manifesto.

Bashasha urged officials that the party wanted to see full operationalisation of the health management information systems.
