Music promoters Bajjo, Abtex charged over COVID-19 protest
Four people, including music promoters, Abby Musinguzi aka Abtex and Andrew Mukasa alias Bajjo have been charged for allegedly disobeying lawful orders.
Others are Mr Junior Matovu and Mr Kikomeko Eyekolera.
They were Thursday arraigned before Buganda road court grade one magistrate, Dorothy Bagyenyi, where they were charged and released on bail after spending a night in detention.
Prosecution accuses them of disobeying lawful orders set up by the president in a bid to contain the spread of covid-19 in Uganda.
They were released on bail with each paying Shs200,000 cash and sureties bonded Shs500,000 not cash.
They were ordered to appear in court on May 18, 2020 for further mention of the case.
Bajjo, Matovu and Eyekolera were picked yesterday near the Office of the Prime Minister where they had organised a protest.
Before his arrest Bajjo, who together with Abtex recently contributed 2,000kgs of maize flour to Covid-19 national response fund, said he had gone to seek an explanation from the Prime Minister as to why government had left several people to starve yet several food donations had been made.
Abtex was on the other hand picked from a mobile money where he had gone to transact. Police said they had information that he was mobilising some people to demonstrate.
