Museveni applauds prisons boss for establishing scandal-free service through reforms

President Yoweri Museveni has commended the Commissioner General of Prisons Dr Johnson Byabashaija for transforming the operations of the corrections service.

In a ceremony while commissioning and passing out 2234 officers at Akol oli ceremonial grounds Museveni applauded Byabashaija who is retiring, for enhancing accountability and curbing corruption at the helm of the prisons department over the past 5 years.

Under his leadership, the President observed that there were no significant controversies or allegations of graft at the service as reported previously.

Budgets were also properly utilized.  Byabashaija was able to restore order, improve infrastructure and living standards for both inmates and personnel across prison facilities nationwide.

Museveni further acknowledged his role in upholding human rights and dignity of those incarcerated through boosting rehabilitation programs and healthcare services.

Byabashaija attributed the achievements to motivating staff through regular training and incentives to boost professionalism and commitment.

The President urged incoming officials to sustain the positive momentum established through ethical management and public service excellence.

Byabashaija was commended for transforming the agency’s image and departing with an exemplary reform legacy of transparency after decades of misdeeds and mismanagement.
