MAWOGOLA — Hon Uthuman Katerega Mwanadamu has announced his decision to step aside from the administration of the Mawogola County football team after six years of service in the Masaza Cup.
Katerega, who has served as Team Manager and Chairman of the Mawogola Ssaza Team since 2020, made the announcement in a message addressed to Banamawogola, the Sazza Administration, players, supporters and friends of Mawogola.
In his statement, Katerega described his six-year tenure as a journey defined by commitment, sacrifice, growth and pride in the development of Mawogola football.
He said the administration worked during the period to strengthen professionalism, build a competitive team and establish Mawogola as a respected side on the Masaza Cup stage.
UGX 300 Million Investment
Katerega said he personally invested more than UGX 300 million during his time with the team towards its development, structures and the welfare of players.
He described the investment as part of his contribution to the growth of football and young talent in Mawogola.
“Together, we put Mawogola on the map and demonstrated what can be achieved when leadership, talent and community support come together,” Katerega said.
‘I Am Not Leaving Mawogola’
While announcing his departure from the administration, Katerega stressed that his decision should not be interpreted as a departure from Mawogola football or the community.
He said he would remain a supporter of the team and continue encouraging and contributing to the development of young people.
“I may be stepping away from the administration, but I am not stepping away from Mawogola,” he said.
Katerega also expressed appreciation to His Highness the Ssabassajja and the Sazza Administration for the trust placed in him and for providing a platform through which young people could showcase their football talent.
A Legacy of Player Development
Katerega identified the progress of young players beyond Mawogola as one of the most significant achievements of the project.
According to him, several players nurtured through the Mawogola setup have gone on to feature in the Uganda Premier League, while others have joined established clubs.
He also noted that a number of players participating in the Masaza Cup today have football roots connected to Mawogola.
For Katerega, the development of these players represents a lasting legacy that the Mawogola football fraternity can take pride in.
Beyond Football
As he steps away from football administration, Katerega said his future focus will increasingly include broader community development.
He pointed to initiatives aimed at supporting young people, empowering women, strengthening livelihoods and creating opportunities to improve the social and economic wellbeing of people in Mawogola.
He said the experience of the Masaza Cup had demonstrated the wider power of sport to unite communities, discover talent and create opportunities for young people.
A Call for Continued Support
Katerega thanked Banamawogola for standing behind the team throughout his six-year tenure and called for continued, and even greater, support for the team in the years ahead.
He also expressed gratitude to players, coaches, administrators, supporters, partners and friends who contributed to the Mawogola football journey.
“I leave the administration with a heart full of gratitude, pride and hope,” he said.
His departure marks the end of a six-year chapter in the administration of Mawogola football, while he maintains that his commitment to the people and young people of Mawogola will continue beyond his formal administrative role.
Katerega concluded his message with a reminder to fellow leaders that “our community is our responsibility.”
