Butambala, Ssingo Game Abandoned

The Masaza Cup game Between Butambala  and Ssingo has been  abandoned in the 54th minute as the Butikiro group climaxed at the FUFA Technical Center on Monday evening.

Before the Match was Abandoned, Butambala was in the driving seat with 2goals to nill. Therefore because of this lead, they have been declared winners over Ssingo.

Moses Mutebi and Patrick Nsamba had put Butambala in the lead before the referee Vincent Kavuma prematurely ended the game after Ssingo failed to raise the minimum number of players required in a match.

The drama started even before the first whistle as Ssingo managed to raise only nine players for the game following the expulsion of Eria Bukenya and Joseph Ssempijja from the match at Njeru.

The pair were found to have violated health protocols and were subsequently handed a two-year ban from the tournament. This added to the earlier suspension of the team’s chairman Uthman Wasswa.

Ssingo were reduced to eight men early on in the game after goalkeeper Fred Ntege was stretched off following a clash with one of his defenders with left back Rogers Masembe taking his spot in goal.

Nine minutes into the second half, two more Ssingo players suffered injuries and were taken off the pitch before the referee ended the game.

The game carried no significance to how the Butikiro group would end, with both teams’ fate already sealed before kick-off.

Defending champions Bulemeezi topped the group on goal difference after finishing level with Mawogola on eight points. The two played to a goalless draw earlier in the afternoon.

Butambala finished third on five points, a point ahead of Buluuli with Ssingo finishing bottom of the group.

Bulemeezi scored seven as the highest number of goals in the group conceding twice while Ssingo conceded nine goals, scoring once in the four games played each.

The Masaza Tournament will take a break and will resume after Christmas on Monday, December 28, 2020 with the Bulange group.
