On Saturday, November 14, 387 new cases were recorded raising Uganda’s cumulative number of cases to 15,789. So far, Uganda has recorded 144 deaths and 8, 038recoveries
The political temperature in Uganda has risen as rival political parties enter an aggressive campaign period as the elections slated for January 2021 nears.
President Yoweri Museveni has however suspended his campaigns citing the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
Taking to his Twitter on Saturday, November 14, Museveni, who is among the 11 candidates who have been cleared to run for the top seat has since urged his competitors to follow suit to stop endangering the lives of Ugandans.
Current circumstances (COVID-19) do not allow me to do rallies. Although I am also campaigning, I call upon my colleagues to desist from endangering our people no matter the reason. ” Current circumstances (COVID-19) do not allow me to do rallies because the health of the people is a priority. Although I am campaigning, I call upon my other colleagues to desist from endangering our people no matter the reason,” said Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

“This disease does not discriminate between young and old as it’s falsely believed. Therefore, the ones in charge should see to it that Ugandans’ lives are protected. COVID-19 is VERY REAL,” he added.

Yoweri Kaguta Museveni banned presidential candidates from addressing their supporters from their vehicle’s roofs, instead, he directed them to address them inside their cars.
The president also directed the social gatherings to be limited to only 200 people.
The head of state implored all the candidates to focus on conducting their campaigns on radio and TV.
