Middle distance king Joshua Cheptegei on Monday returned back home where he received a warm welcome at Entebbe International Airport.

AIGP Andrew Sorowen ‘crowns’ Cheptegei upon his return.

He returns after his record-breaking feats at the NN Valencia Run where he set a new 10000m world record time of 26:11:00 wiping away Kenenisa Bekele’s record that stood for 15 years before finishing 4th at the World Half Marathon in Poland on Saturday, a race that was won by fellow Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo.

Cheptegei was reunited with his family.

He was received by Presidential advisor on sports Carlos Lange Gunter, the commissioner in the ministry of education and sports Omara Apita, AIGP Andrew Sorowen who heads sports in Uganda Police Force, National Council of Sports delegates as well as members of his family.

Meanwhile, the second batch of athletes led by Kiplimo will arrive in the country on Wednesday.
