Yusuf Mukisa Joins Nairobi City Stars
Former Uganda Proline Defender For 2019/20 Season Yusufu Mukisa has completed his move to Kenyan Premier league side Nairobi City Stars.
The former Uganda U20 captain joins Nairobi City Stars on a free-transfer from Proline FC and has put apen on paper for a 2-year contract with the KPL new entrants.
Yusuf Mukisa who can play across the backline is expected to fill in at right back at City Stars as a replacement for defender Kevin Okumu who has left the club according to the club’s first team coordinator.
“Yusuf Mukisa is a utility back who is comfortable as a left, centre or right back. He is however coming in to fill the right back position vacated by Kevin Okumu”
“We are certain his arrival will solidify our back line. I welcome him to Simba wa Nairobi.” City Stars team coordinator Samson Otieno told the club’s website.
Yusuf Mukisa, is a former Uganda U20 captain who also featured for SC Villa, BUL FC and Vipers SC. He won the Ugandan league title with Vipers in the 2015/16 season.
Yusuf Mukisa made a third reunion with his boyhood club Proline at the start of the season from SC Villa going on to play 13 league games for the club.
He represented the club in the CECAFA Club Championships in Rwanda and also in the CAF Confederations Cup where they were knocked out at the play-off round.
He suffered relegation with Proline after the 2019/20 season was cancelled, with Mukisa choosing to move on from the club following the expiry of his contract.
“I’m excited to join both the City Stars and Jonathan Jackson Foundation family,” Mukisa said.
“We have been in contact for the past six months and I came over in January and trained with the team in Nairobi. I was impressed by the playing unit, coach, structures and feel good atmosphere around the team,”
“Now we have managed to get the deal and I wish to thank the CEO Patrick Korir and Coordinator Samson Otieno for the efforts to get me over there,” he added.
City Stars has been home to a couple of Uganda players including Dan Sserunkuuma and Jimmy Bageya, and the 27-year-old hopes to build on their legacies at the club.
“City Stars has a great history and is known for grooming Ugandan talents such as Danny Sserunkuuma, Bruno Sserunkuuma and Jimmy Bageya, among others, and I am happy to be part of this group.”
“With the performances from last season, I’m certain the team will have a good season in both the Kenyan Premier League and domestic cup,” Mukisa noted.
Yusuf Mukisa becomes the third player to join City Stars in the transfer window after striker Erick Ombija from Gor Mahia and defensive midfielder Sven Yidah from Kariobangi Sharks.
The trio join four developmental players Rowland Makati from Vapor Sports, Timothy Ouma from Laiser Hill Academy, Ronney Kola Oyaro from Kenya School of Government (KSG) and goalkeeper Elvis Ochieng Ochoro from Hakati Sportiff who have been promoted to the senior team.
