In a recent development, law enforcement authorities have detained four teachers on charges of possessing and circulating counterfeit Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) papers through online platforms.
The individuals implicated in this illicit activity are Bakashaba Vincent from Kimongole Primary School in Isingiro, Muheki Vincent from Vision Primary School in Ibanda, Pabeku Albert from Stoneridge Primary School in Kira, and Oyet Hosea from Dignatory Junior School in Rukungiri.
According to the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB), these teachers were caught disseminating fake PLE papers on various social media channels, reportedly demanding exorbitant fees of up to 750,000 Ugandan Shillings for each set of the purported examination materials.
Legal proceedings and future steps
The accused individuals are presently under police custody and are set to attend a plea hearing scheduled for today, Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
They will face charges under Section 25 of the UNEB Act, CAP 259, which prohibits the unauthorized acquisition or distribution of examination papers and materials.
As per the stipulations of the UNEB Act, those found guilty of such offenses could face fines of up to 20 million Ugandan Shillings or a maximum prison term of five years, or both. This legislation encompasses both physical and digital forms of examination content and their dissemination.
With the PLE exams slated to commence on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, it is imperative to uphold the integrity of the examination process and ensure a fair and transparent assessment environment for all candidates.
