The young and energetic Joy had been battling Leukemia for about two years before her sudden passing.
Taking to social media, Ben expressed his sorrow saying he was in tears while writing his message. He gave glory to God for taking her to a place where there was no suffering but also honoured her for a battle well fought. “Rest well small sis, you fought cancer with all you had. You fought a good fight and now we give glory to God because where you are there’s no more suffering. I thank God for a life well-lived. I’m in tears writing this but it is well. Rest in peace @JoyWairuri (broken hearts emoticons),” he wrote.
Ben shared on Instagram about their last encounter which happened to be on Saturday, May 9, at the hospital. “I remember setting up a Netflix account for you on your phone on Saturday, so excited that you were not going to be bored anymore little did I know it was our last encounter. Though I’m sad, I’m at peace with the fact that your faith in God was unshaken and now you are in Heaven, You are in a better place Joy,” Ben also wrote. In a video, shared by CITAM Valley Road Youth on Instagram, which was meant to help raise funds for a second treatment, Ben spoke about her sister’s courage and fight being that she had won the first battle with the condition.
However, months later her sister started feeling unwell and this time it was even more severe as the condition relapsed leading to a worrying loss of blood. Ben revealed that Joy became partially deaf owing to the loss of blood and the family was hoping to raise KSh 5.3 million to enable her to get treatment abroad, once the travel ban was lifted.
The singer, in the video, revealed that they had hope and were to keep on fighting believing that she would receive the treatment needed. Joy was a great servant of God and took part as a host on the church’s TV youth channel. Our condolences go out to the friends and family of Joy and may her soul rest in eternal peace.
