Police in Kasese has confirmed the arrest of a 20 year old man over alleged defilement of a 12 year old girl. The suspect identified as Mubere is a mason from Mughethe village in Kyalhumba sub county that resides in Kidodo cell kasese municipality.
As we interviewed Sharif Masereka the kidodo cell chairperson told our reporter that the girl with names withheld on Thursday morning took tea to Masereka in his rental unit when she was attacked.
“ According to the child, Mubere grabbed her and pinned her to the mattress on the floor of the area that serves as the bedroom. He was later arrested by residents after she started screaming,”Masereka said.
However he urged all members of the public especially parents to avoid exposing children to environments such as child labor that can easily lead to this abuse.
However this is the second incident in less than a week after the police in Kasese nabbed a 23 year old man over alleged defiling a three year old girl in Munkunyu sub county,Bukonzo East constituency.
According to Faisal Bagumira Kiraira the Kasese district senior probation and social welfare officer said defilement is most rampant in Mpondwe Lhubiriha Town council as well as Bugoya, Buhuhira, Bwesumbu, Malibu,
He added that these defilement cases are commonly committed by biological relatives noting that the district has registered 16 cases of incest adding that 10 suspects had been arrested and charged before high court.
The annual police crime report of 2020 revealed that the number of girls defiled by their parents increased by 42.9% from 84 in 2019 to 120 in 2020.
