Unveiling Rabadaba: The journey of Ugandan music sensation
Upon signing with the label, Rabadaba, now based in the U.K., made demands, including a car, a luxury beyond the label’s means at the time. However, label head Mugumbya acknowledged the reasonableness of Rabadaba’s request, considering his established status in the industry.
This experience prompted Swangz Avenue to redirect its efforts towards nurturing emerging talents rather than collaborating with already-established artists, signaling a strategic shift in their artist development approach.
Educational journey and musical transition
Born in Mulago, Kampala, Rabadaba’s educational path took him through various schools, including Buganda Road Primary School, Kampala Parents, Lohanna Academy, Greenhill Academy, St. Lawrence, Mengo S.S., Aga Khan High School, and Buziga Islamic S.S., before completing his A-levels at Greenhill Academy.
After obtaining his bachelor’s degree from Makerere University, Rabadaba embarked on his music career, starting with the group Spontaneous, which included Gatimo, Grace Nakimera, and Paragon. The group disbanded in 2008, leading Rabadaba to pursue a solo path.
Initially working as a photographer for a relative’s events company, Rabadaba transitioned to a solo music career with encouragement from peers like Benon, who produced his debut single “Silubala” in 2010.
The same year, he was recognized as the Best Reggae Artist, attributing his early achievements to the support of Vampos and Benon Mugumbya.
