Museveni says CID officers key in social- economic transformation
President Museveni has voiced the need to strengthen peace and security in order for Uganda to continue achieving desired social economic transformation.
This was during a retreat of 67 criminal Investigations Directorate police officers at State House Entebbe.
Mr Museveni cited places in Kampala such as Munyonyo and Kansanga which have drawn foreigners who are running successful business due to the comparatively peaceful environment.
“ These people are wealth creators and need peace, so they don’t run away to take their business elsewhere.”
He added that if there is crime and insecurity, investors can’t come here because the cost of doing business is very high.
CID officers have a very critical role to play while shaping the social economic transformation he noted.
He however reminded the officers to do their work, keeping in mind the ideology of the National Resistance Movement that is anchored on the four principles of patriotism, pan Africanism, social-economic transformation and democracy.
….”This little war against thieves, and you can deal with them but you must start by being clean yourselves.”
The president further urged all Ugandans to get involved in the four sectors of wealth creation: commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services and ICT.
However AIGP Maj. Tom Magambo the Director of Criminal Investigation informed the president that they have made progress on high profile cases and corruption despite wrong elements of intimidation.
He added that they have set up a complaints desk at the CID headquarters in Kibuli and a toll free line which will be installed for members of the public to directly contact them.
Police’s director of human resource development AIGP Godfrey Golooba thanked the president for the trust he put them to professionalize the force and further briefed the president about the three months refresher course on criminal investigations and intelligence at Kabalye police training school which has been successful and another batch of 77 officers will report for a similar course this Saturday .
