Museveni gifts chicks, goats to Luwero farmers in poverty fight campaign
While delivering the consignment in Luwero District on Tuesday the head of Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Ms Hadija Namyalo told our reporters that the poverty alleviation initiative is a special presidential arrangement that was aimed to fight poverty in various parts of the country.
“ This poverty alleviation program is meant to boost the agricultural sector in the district. This isn’t part of the known government programs but it’s a presidential intervention at a personal level to fight against poverty among his people,” Ms Namyalo said.
However the first 20 beneficiaries received 200 chicks and 15 bags of chicken feeds each for purposes of proper management and ensuring good health of the supplied chicken.
Consequently Gadafi Nasur the NRM Youth League braced the initiative and said that thorough inspection on the eligible beneficiaries was conducted before disbursements of the presidential consignment.
Mr Moses Muyambi the deputy district commissioner of Nakaseke commended the president for the decision to use Luwero household income of many homes.
“ This is a very great opportunity for the people of Luwero please don’t let the president down because if you do you will have killed the project and other district will not benefit from it,” he said.
Other beneficiaries who spoke to this media considered the presidential intervention as a last time hope for the people in the region who have been victims of poverty despite their total support of the president Museveni’s National Resistance Army during the 1982 – 1986 bush war.
Luwero District is well known as the epicenter of the guerrilla war that brought president Museveni’s government into power in 1986.
