Former MP Munyagwa’s residence targeted by machete-wielding attackers

In a distressing incident, the home of former Member of Parliament Mubarak Munyagwa, was assaulted by individuals armed with pangas. The incident, which occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday has raised concerns about the safety and security of public figures.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of assailants arrived at Munyagwa ‘s residence in an apparent premeditated attack.

The attackers brandished pangas, commonly known as machetes, and forcefully entered the premises. The motive behind the assault remains unclear at this point.

The former MP, who was present during the attack, managed to escape unharmed. However, the assailants caused significant damage to the property before fleeing the scene.

It is reported that the security personnel assigned to the residence attempted to intervene, but the attackers outnumbered them.

According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened at around 3am in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

“A swift response led by the Division Police Commander  prevented the assailants from gaining access to Hon Munyagwa’s home. The timely reporting by Hon Munyagwa and the rapid response of the police team on patrol played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of life and property,” Owoyesigyire said.

Meanwhile  Oweyesigyire however noted that during the incident, the security guard at Munyagwa’s home , Benjamin Mpaka, sustained a head injury from a sharp object and was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

The police have assured the public that they are taking the matter seriously and are committed to apprehending the culprits responsible for this act of violence.

Concerns have been raised about the safety of public figures, as incidents like these highlight the need for enhanced security measures. Many are urging the authorities to prioritize the safety of individuals who serve the public, as their well-being is crucial for a functioning democracy.
